CCA Band & Music Programs

Christ Classical Academy's Music programs are designed to develop a child's creativity, brain development, language, discipline, motor skills, and self confidence. Music is also a beautiful, God-given way to offer praise and worship to our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The Band program offers a comprehensive music education using traditional band instruments for students in grades 5-12. Students will attend full band rehearsals plus have concert opportunities for students who wish to learn a musical instrument.
Beginner Band
The Beginner Band is open to full-time and part-time students in grades 5-12. No previous experience is required. The students are taught how to put the instrument together and care for it on the first day of class. Then they proceed from making sounds on the instrument to playing short melodies from their books by mid-semester. They will play their first piece of sheet music as a class by the end of the year. The Beginner Band meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon.
Concert Band
The Concert Band is open to full-time and part-time students in grades 6-12, who have one or more years of previous experience in a band program or private lessons. Class instruction is built upon previous knowledge of musical skills and musicianship. The Concert Band meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon.
Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is open to full-time and part-time students in grades 6-12 who have one or more years of previous experience in a band program or private lessons. The student will enhance his/her skills by learning to pay various styles of jazz music. The Jazz Band meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon. Players on traditional band instruments including saxophone, trumpet, and trombone are needed, as well as piano, drum set, guitar, and bass.
Our Band Instruments
Parents are responsible for providing their children with an instrument in good working condition, the appropriate band method book and a pencil for each class. These may be purchased from "The Music Center" in Lenoir, Hickory, Statesville, Gastonia, or Asheville.
The traditional band instruments are: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion.
music club
The Music Club is open to students in grades K-4. No previous experience is required. The student will learn classical music appreciation and history through the study of various composers, their compositions, and time periods. The student will also learn how to read simple notes and basic rhythms using various instruments, such as recorders, handbells, boomwhackers, their voices, and small rhythm instruments. The Music Club meets 2 days a week, the time varies by grade level.

Mrs. Melissa Kerstetter holds a baccalaureate in music education (K-12) from Appalachian State University. She has four children and has over 25 years of public, private, and homeschool classroom experience teaching general music, marching band, concert band, jazz band, flute choir, and chorus, as well as private instruction on various band instruments and piano.

I. Registration Fee:
Band Only-The band registration fee is paid per student and is to be submitted with student’s
application each year. If part-time student has no other siblings at CCA and is the only child
from a family enrolled at CCA taking no more than 3 classes. (non-refundable) $50
Music Club Only- $50

Part-time student taking Band and other CCA academic classes (due when submitting student application; non-refundable) $175

II. Book Fee: Covers textbooks, consumables, and classroom reproducible material
· Book Fee: per class included in July 1st invoice $Price dependent on classes taken (if class has a required textbook/material)
III. Testing Fee: Entrance Exam is only required for students taking academic classes as well as band classes
New Student and ALL Kindergarten Students Entrance Exam is done through Cornerstone Counseling Center – Parents will need to call Cornerstone Counseling Center and set up testing at (828) 322-4941. The Entrance Exam will be paid directly to Cornerstone Counseling Center and is required for acceptance. The address is as follows: 439 1st Ave NW Hickory, NC 28601
Entrance into TK is exempt from testing but will be required to test upon entering Kindergarten
NEW Students & ALL Kindergarten (new and currently enrolled) $225-$305 per student
(Fee varies based upon discerning child’s level and is at the discretion of Cornerstone Counseling Center)
IV. Miscellaneous Fees: This fee allows students to participate in field trips and community service project.
· Activity Fee: (K-12th) $55
· Notification & System Fee: per child $35
V. Sports: students who are enrolled as a Part time student taking a minimum of 2 academic classes other than band are allowed to play sports for CCA.
The Sports fee is per sport and dependent upon the sport played $35-$50
VI. High School classes with Labs (Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy) $20-$35
